Giving Opportunities

Research Endowment: Early Childhood, School Age and Adolescent
Research is the foundation of the Children’s Learning Institute. A large research database on early childhood has been developed from numerous competitive research grants supported by the National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD), private foundations, and The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. The faculty and staff of CLI are experts in the design of research studies, development and evaluation of assessment instruments, and statistical analyses including general linear and nonlinear mixed models, structural equation models, and growth curve modeling. Private funding will allow the experts at CLI to continue to improve the learning capabilities and opportunities for all children through research-driven scientifically, proven tools.

Name and Establish Faculty Endowments
Faculty endowments such as a Distinguished University Chair, Distinguished Chair, and endowed Chairs allow the university, to recruit and retain faculty and researchers of proven brilliance who are able to not only advance research efforts, but who encourage and inspire the next generation of students under their tutelage. Endowments also allow for recognition of faculty who have made unique contributions to academic life or to knowledge in their discipline.

Clinical Scholarship Fund – Dan L. Duncan Children’s Neurodevelopmental Clinic
The Clinical Scholarship Fund at the Dan L. Duncan Children’s Neurodevelopmental Clinic was created in late 2008 by an anonymous family member of a child who had been helped by the doctors at the Clinic. The donor wanted to establish the fund so all families, regardless of their economic status, could have the opportunity to provide their children a sound educational future. The program is in its infancy but has great promise to change the lives of children across Houston.

Current Use Funds for Program Implementation
Funds will be used to expand:

  • The number of pre-school classrooms in the Texas Early Education Model (TEEM) which prepares children to enter kindergarten “School Ready”. Click here to read about the impact philanthropy had in one pre-school classroom.
  • The reach of Play and Learning Strategies (PALS), which teaches parents specific skills for interacting with their infants and toddlers that lead to better child outcomes, particularly in children from high-risk families
  • Current reading and math initiatives that focus on children’s ability to learn
